Submitted by on April 11, 2011 – 9:42 PMNo Comment

Youth Wing of our Balaji Seva Samiti mooted with an idea of holding a cricket match (impromptu & improvised version), space being the main constraint of, it was decided to hold it near an empty space available near the reconstruccted church at Vasai Fort. There were 38 people all in all right from as young as 10 year old to 50 plus. Two teams were formed named “Balaji 14” and “Venkataramana 14”. Sri Someshwar Devendra Bhakta headed the “Balaji 14” and Sri Purushotham S Shenoy headed the “Venkataramana 14”. Match was restricted to 15 overs per side. Toss was won by Balaji 14 and ultimately the game too. Venkataaraman piled up decent total of 102 runs in 15 overs (better than our “Men in Blue), and Balaji 14 played equally well and scored 103 runs with a few balls to spare and couple of wickets still in hand. Everyone played in the right spirit. Pooja Baliga, Shruthi Shenoy, Akshata Kamath, Apeksha Bhakta & Smt. Vrinda Acharya helped in keeping the scores.

The main intention behind this was to involve our youth in some extra curricular / physical activities & to encourage them. There were quite a few seasoned youth players. Both teams had an equal mix of both young and senior players.

Game which began at 7:30 am ended at 9 AM. The event ended in a scrumptuous Vadas, Idli’s and Buns at “Kamath Food Center” known as KFC amoungst our Vasai GSB community.
